GemPages and PageFly look increasingly similar on a feature list. Both build Shopify pages without code, both now use AI, and both offer CRO tools.
The difference shows up once you start publishing.
PageFly is cheaper to get into and bundles A/B testing into its Optimize plan. GemPages gives you unlimited pages from its first paid tier and has a more developed native post-purchase upsell flow.
Their AI tools start from different inputs, their pricing scales differently, and neither is painless to leave once your store depends on its pages.
So the better choice doesn’t necessarily boil down to the longer feature list. Limits, testing setup, and publishing workflow fit for the way your store operates are dealbreakers here.
Quick Verdict
Choose PageFly if you want the cheaper starting plan and CRO tools built into the same app. Choose GemPages if you expect to publish a lot of pages or want native post-purchase upsells.
PageFly starts at $24/month for 5 published pages or sections, while its current Optimize plan adds A/B testing and funnel analytics for $39/month. GemPages Build costs $29/month but gives you unlimited published pages immediately. Its Sales Funnel also supports post-purchase upsell and downsell offers, which PageFly's funnel analytics are not a direct substitute for.
Their AI tools also start from different inputs. PageFly Smart Pages builds a page from a written description. GemPages Image-to-Layout recreates an image or existing webpage as editable sections. PagePilot goes one step closer to the product itself by starting from a product URL and generating the product page around that source.
That is much easier to digest because the reader gets three actual buying decisions:
- Need built-in testing? → PageFly.
- Need unlimited pages or post-purchase upsells? → GemPages.
- Need to turn an existing product into a page rather than design one from scratch? → PagePilot.
GemPages vs PageFly at a Glance
How This Comparison Was Evaluated
This comparison uses current pricing pages, Shopify App Store listings, and help documentation from PageFly and GemPages. When the two companies publish different figures in different places, we’ve called that out instead of choosing whichever number looks cleaner.
Pricing was checked in August 2026, but both platforms change plans and limits over time, so confirm the final price before you subscribe.
We haven’t treated either company’s speed claims as proof. Neither publishes an independent head-to-head benchmark, and actual load time depends on your theme, images, scripts, and other apps.
The speed section below focuses on what to test on your own store rather than declaring a winner.
Pricing and Plan Limits
The practical difference is that PageFly is cheaper at the low end, while GemPages gives you unlimited published pages much sooner.
GemPages
- Free: $0, 1 published page
- Build: $29/month, unlimited published pages
- Optimize: $59/month
- Enterprise: $199/month
- Page-level A/B testing: separate through GemX, from $49/month
Free and Build cap post-purchase upsell revenue at $100 per billing cycle. Optimize removes that cap, then charges $10 for every additional $1,000 in upsell revenue after the first $1,000. Enterprise removes the commission.
That commission is based on post-purchase upsell revenue, not total store revenue.
PageFly
- Builder: $24/month, 5 published pages or sections
- Optimize: currently $39/month, 20 pages or sections
- Accelerate: $99/month, unlimited
- Power: $199/month, unlimited
- A/B testing: included from Optimize
PageFly is cheaper if five published pages are enough. Once you need more than five, GemPages Build becomes the cheaper publishing option because its $29 plan already includes unlimited pages.
What That Means in Practice
- Up to 5 published pages: PageFly Builder is cheaper.
- 6 to 20 pages: GemPages Build costs less than PageFly Optimize and gives you unlimited pages.
- More than 20 pages: GemPages has the clear pricing advantage if page volume is the main concern.
- Need A/B testing in the same subscription: PageFly is simpler.
- Need native post-purchase upsells: GemPages is stronger, but factor in its upsell revenue caps and Optimize commission.
Note that PageFly's current pricing cards show Optimize at $39/month with 20 pages or sections, while older $69/50-slot figures still appear elsewhere on its own site. Check the price shown at checkout before subscribing.
See PagePilot pricing if you want a third data point before deciding between these two.
Building Shopify Product Pages
Both GemPages and PageFly let you build and publish Shopify product pages without touching theme code. The bigger difference is how you get to the first draft.
GemPages
- 400+ strategic templates and sections across product pages, landing pages, and other Shopify page types on Build and above
- GemAI Image-to-Layout can turn an image or existing webpage into editable sections
- Better suited to merchants who want a large library of ready-made building blocks and granular control over the final layout
- Responsive editing lets you adjust the same page for desktop, tablet, and mobile
PageFly
- Smart Pages can generate a page structure from a written description, including on the Free plan
- You can also start from a template or build manually with the drag-and-drop editor
- Responsive controls let you customize how the same page appears across devices
The distinction is no longer that GemPages uses AI and PageFly is manual. GemPages is stronger at recreating and assembling layouts, while PageFly gives you an AI-prompted starting point alongside its traditional editor.
Funnels, Upsells, and AOV Tools
These tools solve different parts of the funnel.
Choose GemPages for native post-purchase upsells. Choose PageFly for funnel analysis, page testing, and in-cart optimization.
GemPages
GemPages can show up to two upsell or downsell offers after checkout.
- Free and Build cap post-purchase upsell revenue at $100 per billing cycle
- Optimize removes that cap but introduces its revenue-based commission
- Enterprise removes the commission
This makes GemPages the clearer choice if post-purchase offers are a core part of your AOV strategy.
PageFly
PageFly's CRO Center focuses more on what happens before and inside the cart.
It currently includes:
- Page-level A/B testing
- Funnel and drop-off analysis
- Heatmaps
- Section-performance reporting
- A beta Cart Drawer with bundle upsells and testing
Several of those CRO Center features are still marked Beta, so check their current status before relying on them in your workflow.
Neither builder increases AOV automatically. GemPages gives you the stronger post-purchase offer flow; PageFly gives you more tools for measuring, testing, and optimizing the journey before the order is completed.
A/B Testing and CRO
PageFly is the simpler option if you want page-level A/B testing inside the same subscription. GemPages can do more specialized testing through GemX, but that comes as a separate cost.
PageFly
PageFly includes A/B testing from its Optimize plan, currently listed at $39/month. Tests sit inside the CRO Center, where you can compare page variants and publish the winning version without moving into another app.
Its broader CRO toolkit is still developing. Heatmaps, funnel visualization, section-performance reporting, and the Cart Drawer are currently marked Beta, while page-level A/B testing is already available.
GemPages
GemPages does not bundle page-level A/B testing into its core plans. That runs through GemX, which starts at $49/month for up to 10 live experiments.
GemX also adds more advanced targeting options, including audience, device, and traffic-source segmentation. Its Funnel Optimize plan starts at $99/month plus usage fees.
GemPages itself still supports testing post-purchase offers inside Sales Funnel, so GemX is specifically the extra cost for testing full landing-page or product-page variants.
Put simply, choose PageFly if you want straightforward page testing included with the builder. GemX makes more sense if you need a dedicated experimentation layer with deeper targeting controls.
Page Speed and Core Web Vitals
Neither GemPages nor PageFly has a proven universal speed advantage. Both include performance controls, but the finished page still needs to be tested on your own Shopify store.
PageFly
PageFly gives you controls for lazy loading and image preloading, including the ability to prioritize an important above-the-fold image while delaying media farther down the page.
That can help, but the result still depends on how much content, media, custom code, and third-party functionality you add.
GemPages
GemPages V7 enables several optimizations by default, including section lazy loading, automatic image lazy loading, and deferred non-critical scripts. You can also preload the main image responsible for LCP.
Optimize adds Instant Landing Page, a headless page type designed to reduce some of the theme and storefront dependencies loaded with a conventional Shopify page.
That gives GemPages another performance option, but it still does not guarantee a faster page.
Shopify notes that themes, apps, third-party libraries, analytics, images, and video can all affect storefront performance. Its web performance guidance is the better benchmark than either builder's marketing.
When comparing published pages, check:
- LCP: 2.5 seconds or less
- INP: under 200 ms
- CLS: under 0.1
- Performance at the 75th percentile, rather than relying on one unusually good test
Google's Core Web Vitals guidance uses those thresholds for a good user experience.
The fairest comparison is to publish similar pages with the same theme, images, scripts, and device conditions, then measure the actual result. Our Shopify speed optimization guide covers the fixes that matter regardless of which builder you use.
Ease of Use for Non-Coders
GemPages has the stronger case for non-coders who expect to spend time editing pages themselves. PageFly can get you to an AI-generated first draft quickly, but its visual editor appears to have a steeper initial learning curve.
GemPages V7 combines drag-and-drop editing, templates, and AI-assisted layout creation. Recent Shopify App Store feedback also includes merchants describing the editor as easy to use for beginners, with only a small learning curve once they start customizing.
PageFly offers a different advantage with Smart Pages, which can generate the first page structure from a written prompt, even on the Free plan. That makes getting started fast. Once merchants move into detailed manual editing, however, recent reviews show more reports of a learning curve and less intuitive configuration.
So the distinction is useful:
- Choose GemPages if you want the easier ongoing no-code editing experience.
- Choose PageFly if you value getting an AI-generated starting point quickly and do not mind spending more time learning the editor afterward.
Both can be used without coding. The difference is where the friction shows up.
What Happens If You Switch Away From GemPages or PageFly?
Neither builder is especially portable once your live store depends on it, but the exit process works differently.
PageFly
Uninstalling PageFly is the more destructive path. Its current documentation says removing the app deletes PageFly pages, sections, analytics, A/B testing data, global styles, saved templates, fonts, and other app data.
You can export pages before leaving, but the backup has limits:
- Exports use PageFly's proprietary .pagefly format
- The file is intended for importing into another store that also uses PageFly
- Images are not included in the export and need to be handled separately
So exporting a PageFly page is useful for moving between PageFly stores. It does not turn the design into a portable native Shopify page.
GemPages
GemPages recommends downgrading to Free rather than uninstalling if you want to keep existing pages intact. Its documentation says live pages remain available on Free, although stores with more than one published page cannot republish those extra pages after downgrading.
If you do leave completely, GemPages provides a Safe Uninstall process. That removes GemPages code from the theme, moves GemPages templates to Draft, and sends assigned product and collection templates back to Shopify's default templates.
When PagePilot Is a Different Workflow
PagePilot takes a product URL from sources such as Shopify, AliExpress, Amazon, or Etsy and uses that product as the input for generating the page. Its current workflow includes the page structure, copy, product images, brand matching, and subsequent drag-and-drop editing.
The three tools now have different AI starting points.
- PageFly's Smart Pages starts from a written description.
- GemPages' GemAI Image-to-Layout starts from an image or existing webpage URL and recreates its layout as editable sections.
- PagePilot starts from a product URL and uses the product information to generate the page, copy, images, and branded structure, which you can then refine in its drag-and-drop editor.
That makes PagePilot more product-specific than a generic page prompt or layout recreation. It isn't evidence that the finished page will convert better, but it can remove more of the product-page setup when you already have a product URL to work from.
See AI-generated Shopify product pages for that workflow in more detail.
Compare a Different Starting Point
GemPages and PageFly both ask you to build or prompt your way to a page. If you're starting from a product you already sell rather than a blank editor or a written prompt, that's a different problem to solve.

Frequently Asked Questions
GemPages vs PageFly: which is better overall?
GemPages vs PageFly comes down to what you need most, not a flat winner. PageFly wins on entry price ($24/month Builder), free-plan generosity, and A/B testing bundled from Optimize at $39/month. GemPages wins on unlimited published pages starting at its $29/month Build plan and a native post-purchase upsell flow. Pick based on your page volume and whether you need funnel measurement or direct upsell offers.
Which has better AOV and upsell tools, GemPages or PageFly?
GemPages has the more direct AOV tool: a native post-purchase upsell and downsell flow, capped at $100 in upsell revenue per billing cycle on Free and Build, with a $10-per-$1,000 commission on Optimize. PageFly's CRO Center takes a different angle, funnel analytics plus a Beta Cart Drawer with bundle upsells, rather than a post-purchase offer screen. Neither guarantees a higher AOV by itself.
Which is better for building product pages, GemPages or PageFly?
GemPages gives you more than 400 prebuilt strategic templates and sections to start from, which speeds up assembling a structured page but adds editor density. PageFly gives you two starting routes on its Free plan: Smart Pages, which generates a page from a written description, and its own drag-and-drop template library. Both can produce a finished product page, just from different starting points.
Which is easier to use for a non-coder, GemPages or PageFly?
GemPages is easier for most non-coders who expect to edit pages themselves. Its V7 editor combines drag-and-drop controls, templates, and Image-to-Layout, and recent merchants describe it as easy even for novices. PageFly can create a first draft faster with Smart Pages, but its visual editor has more reports of an initial learning curve.
Does PageFly or GemPages have A/B testing?
PageFly bundles page-level A/B testing into its Optimize plan at $39/month, alongside heatmaps and funnel analytics in its CRO Center. GemPages doesn't include page-level testing in any of its own plans. It runs through GemX, a separate app starting at $49/month for up to 10 live experiments.
What happens if I uninstall GemPages or PageFly?
Uninstalling PageFly can permanently delete PageFly data and take down published PageFly content unless you export it first, and that export is a .pagefly file meant for re-importing into PageFly, not a portable Shopify page. Uninstalling GemPages can remove files or scripts live pages depend on, so GemPages recommends a safe uninstall or downgrading to Free instead, which reverts page templates to Shopify's own defaults rather than deleting them.
Does GemPages or PageFly convert better?
There's no tool-side answer to the GemPages vs PageFly conversion question. Conversion rate is a function of your offer, copy, page structure, and traffic quality, not which builder assembled the page. GemPages gives you more prebuilt sections to start a structured page from, which can speed up getting a good page live, but neither tool converts better by default.
Is PageFly cheaper than GemPages?
PageFly is cheaper only up to 5 published pages or sections, where its Builder plan costs $24/month against GemPages Build at $29/month. Past that limit, PageFly requires Optimize at $39/month for 20 pages or sections, while GemPages Build already includes unlimited pages at $29/month, making GemPages the cheaper option for most stores publishing more than a handful of pages.
